Hevyfest 2011 is it’s 4th year as North America’s 1st International, fully interactive, fitness orientated, family friendly, slackline festival. Join us for some slackin, hackin, huupin, and poi. Fun for all ages! Featuring Cirque de Dirt, and interactive kids hour. Saturday, July 9 From 2-8 @ Nexon Beach, Squamish BC *where downtown begins* Hevyfest is a way of promoting the art of slacklining.

In the last decade its appeal has moved from just climbers, to all sorts of adventurous sport types. Slacklining has become world wide, and Squamish is a great place to showcase it as we are The Outdoor Capital of Canada. This year we will have over 2000 feet of slacklines of different skill levels, and this year a kids Tri-line.Fun! We will have volunteers to help show how to do all the activities.

Learn more on their Facebook page.

Voluntourism is gaining popularity as people decide that they want to make a difference in other parts of the world.
Earthwatch has partnered with Travelocity to create a web site call Travel for Good, a website for travelers interested in making a difference on their next remote holiday adventure. There is information on all kinds of great trips and even some information on how to apply for grants to pay for your adventure. Voluntourism allows you to give back to the communities you visit on your travels for a couple of days or for even a few months.

The destinations vary including India, Tanzania, Brazil and many more. One particularly interesting destination is Tanzania where volunteers visit Bagamoyo, while working along side with local tribes in organizations offering services in caregiving, teaching, healthcare and community developmement. Learn more about this trek.
